India's real life 'Slumdog Millionaire' wins $1million prize

27-year-old newlywed, Sushil Kumar, a government clerk from a one of the poorest region of eastern India, has become the first person ever to win $1 million on the popular Indian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire."

Before winning the ultimate prize, Kumar worked as a computer operator for the government and tutored on the side to supplement his income, which was $120 a month.

In spite of his humble surroundings, he got all of the quiz show's questions right, a feat his brother attributes to Kumar's penchant for BBC programs. The brother also said the family had been too poor to afford a television set and had watched the quiz show at a neighbour’s home. Now their lives have changed forever.
