Police confirm escape of Christmas Day bomber

The Nigerian police two days ago confirmed that the alleged Boko Haram member and the mastermind of the Christmas Day bombing at St Theresa’s Catholic Church that killed over 40 people, Mr Madala, Kabiru Sokoto, who was arrested and detained for the killings, has escaped from police custody.

The suspect, who was arrested last week inside a Borno State Government lodge, allegedly escaped while he was being led to his residence in Abaji, near Abuja. Police claim that the security team escorting the suspect were attacked by youths suspected to be members of Boko Haram in Abaji. 

Following the escape, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Zonal Criminal Investigation Department at Zone 7, Police Command Headquarters, Mr. Zakari Biu, was suspended.
