Fake Lastma Officer Arrested
The Lagos State Government has arrested a fake officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who specialises in recruiting other fake LASTMA officers.
The suspect, Mr. Abayomi Tomdolar, was arrested at Orile Agege area of the state with forms which he issued out to unsuspecting Lagosians who want to join the outfit.
15 people have already fallen into the trap of the fake LASTMA officer who collects N5, 000 from each of the applicant to obtain the recruitment form.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa said the fake LASTMA officer had been a member of the outfit before he was sacked four months ago over unruly act.
According to him, the fake officer would go to the market to buy LASTMA uniforms and give them to a tailor to sew for his intended recruit, adding that he was arrested by LASTMA officers following a tip-off.
“Through informants, we tracked him down by using our men. He is an impostor,” he said, adding that such fake officers would normally go round to collect money from the people under the guise that they are LASTMA officers.
“There are now fake LASTMA officials in the state who have been extorting motorists in the guise of controlling traffic. Most of the fake officials parade Oshodi, Orile and Mile 2 areas of the state wearing LASTMA uniform but with no caps and name tags to identify them.
“Most of them connive with the police to perpetrate nefarious activities. Members of the public should be wary of their antics.
