UMDPS CASE #: 2012-11752

BRIEF DETAILS:
On February 26, 2012 at approximately 3:50 a.m. a female resident of Cumberland Hall was asleep in her bed when she awoke to find a male in her room touching her thigh. Her roommate entered the room and confronted the male. The male stated he entered the room by mistake and then left. It was noticed that the resident’s laptop had been moved and packed in an apparent attempt to steal the laptop. It was learned that the male entered the room through an unlocked door. Officers spoke with other 7th floor residents and learned that other residents had heard the sound of someone trying their door knobs. One resident looked through her peephole and noticed two males who didn’t appear to belong in the building.

The victim and roommate witness provided the following description to police of the first suspect who was involved in the burglary:

5’08” tall, African American male wearing blue jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt and grey baseball hat.

The second suspect observed through a peephole by a witness could only be described as an African American male who, along with the subject described above, did not appear to belong in the residence hall.

OPC member kills Etisalat employee, Chukwuma Eze, over N10 toll

Late Chukwuma Eze
A suspected member of the Odua Peoples Congress known by the pseudonym “Ultimate” on Monday allegedly killed an employee of Etisalat, Chukwuma Eze, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State during an argument over N10 toll.

PUNCH Metro learnt that N10 toll was collected by the OPC members at a footbridge that links Ejigbo with Ajao Estate.
It was gathered that the deceased told the collectors that he had only N1, 000 denominations with him and offered it to one of the collectors who asked him to come back for his balance.

Eze was said to have agreed but was shocked when on his return a female member of the group insisted that the deceased did not give N1,000 to the collectors.
The telecoms employee was said to have been angered by the denial resulting in a fight between him and the female member of the group.

Sensing that the female member of the group could not match Eze’s strength, “Ultimate,” was said to have brought out an object suspected to be charm and hit the telecoms employee with it on the chest.
Eze, who is to marry in April, reportedly slumped and died on the spot.

It was learnt that immediately words filtered in that Eze had died, his kinsmen in the area carried out a reprisal and attacked some members of the OPC found at the footbridge.

A source told PUNCH Metro that in the ensuing pandemonium, a member of the OPC was also killed, while some motorcycles and a generator belonging to members of the group were vandalised.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone confirmed the incident but said facts about the incident were still sketchy.

He  said, “One Chukwuma Eze was allegedly killed by some people collecting money at a footbridge but we cannot say for sure if the collectors are members of the OPC or the local government revenue collectors.
“The incident caused a stir as some friends of the deceased confronted and fought with the suspects.

“The details of what exactly transpired are still sketchy because the incident occurred at night but another corpse, identified as one Sumonu, was also found at Ajao Estate later. We (Police) do not know if his death is related to Eze’s killing.”

EDI GATHEGI LANDS TV PILOT ROLE

The bizarre mix of Jeffrey Daniel, Yinka Davies and Charly Boy is what makes Nigerian Idol the show to beat.

There is the punk king Charly Boy whose antics have given a new name to shock therapy. We all have seen him working a power-bike, we've seen him with make up on and no less than false lashes. We've seen this 60 something year old cry shamelessly and remove his clothes when his favourite contestant left the competition and we have all seen him declare love for one of his contestants and he has begged contestants to slap him!

For Yinka Davies, in season one, this music diva’s strongest feature was her high spontaneous laughter or the way she used to say Aha! It appears that once she is excited, she lets rip one of her many verbal constructions. Here are a couple of her words: “you have dabarued everybody here.’ she told a dramatic performer. ‘You have flabbergastified the whole place’; she told another impressive performer. ‘Blaga bla bla’, she said, when she had no words to describe an excellent performance.

Jeffrey Daniel used to be the coolest judge of all on the show. Jeffrey is well known for his smooth talk and his calm advice to contestants, when Jeffrey says you’ve got it? You definitely have. These days, the Shalamar legend appears to have been bitten by the Charly Boy bug. Last weekend on the show, he warned viewers to vote for Mercy Chinwo. “If you don’t vote the right contestant in, he began, this is what will happen,”.   Then he proceeded to rip off and chew the foam off his microphone to the delight of the audience.

These three are by far Nigeria’s craziest trio on TV.

Africa UNiTE on Kilimanjaro is championed by Tim Challen, a victim of gun-crime in Nairobi who now climbs Kilimanjaro to raise awareness on issues that affect youth in Kenyan and Tanzanian slums. Africa UNiTE is the regional component of the United Nations Secretary General’s Global Campaign and a continent-wide partnership to end all violence against women and girls. Africa UNiTE speaks out in order to prevent violence against women, provide services to survivors and promote justice and end impunity.
