After Bakassi, Cameroun Moves To Claim Obudu • It’s An Empty Threat - Cross River Government.

STILL basking in the euphoria of the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula to it through the World Court ruling at The Hague in 2002, indication has emerged that Cameroun has perfected plans to claim the ownership of Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State. However, the Cross River State government has described such claims as an empty threat, saying “it can never happen, because it is a day dream.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reacting to the development in Calabar, on Tuesday, the Director-General of the Cross River State Border Communities Development Commission (SBCDC), Mr Leo Aggrey, said the matter was still considered an unsubstantiated rumour by the state government.

According to Aggrey, “the Camerounians are threatening to take over the Obudu Ranch Resort, the Cross River State tourism haven. This is quite surprising and we are not treating this matter with levity. I have already forwarded a memo to the state governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, concerning this new threat.”

He, however, described the development as an “empty threat” as anything serious on that would have been decided at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague ‘’as was the case with the oil-rich Bakassi.’’

Aggrey, who noted that the nation’s loss of Bakassi to Cameroun was painful in terms of potential revenue from the area and the displacement of Nigerians resident in the area, maintained that “the state government would not fold its arms and allow Obudu Cattle Ranch to be illegally claimed again.”

On Bakassi, Mr Aggrey said the state government had continued to accord priority attention to the needs of the displaced Bakassi people in respect of their plight, stating that a number of projects had been outlined for them to cushion the effects of their relocation.

The DG said although the State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA) had addressed certain needs of the displaced persons, a lot more needed to be done to assuage them, stressing that his commission had outlined areas of priorities and needs that the government was poised to address for the displaced.

‘’Bakassi matter is a creation of the partition for Africa. And the Cross River State government is very passionate about the Bakassi people and the boundary areas of the state,’’ Aggrey added.

BRT: New fares start tomorrow

The regulatory authority of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) will tomorrow, August 1, commence the implementation of the newly introduced bus fares across its operational routes in the state.
The new increment is a difference of N20 to the existing fare across the board.

For instance, the bus fare from Mile 12 – Jibowu/Yaba which used to be N50 will now cost N70, while a trip from CMS to Mile 12 which used to be N100, now costs N120.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Managing Director of LAMATA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, who announced the plan at a media briefing held at the agency’s headquarters, Ojota, attributed the harsh economic situation in the country as the major cause of the hike.

He added that other operational challenges, such as cost of daily operation culminated into the recent increase. in the transport fare.
Mobereola said: “When BRT commenced operation the cost of diesel was N60 and it wasn’t a month after we began operation that the cost increased to N90 and thereafter N120.”

He added that in spite of the changes the agency was constrained from increasing the fare, because of its concern to ameliorate the challenges residents faced in accessing transportation in the state.

He said; “But we are now at a point that we have to balance either providing a good system or allow the system to run down to the point where eventually the BRT will disappear leaving Lagosians to return back to danfo and molue which we don’t want to happen again.”

Mobereola, explained that in developed societies, like in London, bus fare is actually increased annually from the first of January, whether there was inflation or deflation as part of measures to meet challenges of demands.

He therefore, appealed for the cooperation from Lagos residents on the situation, stressing that it was geared towards serving them better and efficiently and not to inflict any further hardship on them.

Mobereola also disclosed that the agency plans to migrate from the regular issuing of ticket to passengers at the bus shelter to the introduction of e-ticket.

“Very soon we are going to migrate to e-ticketing system which is a lot easier to actually purchase. What we mean by this is that you don’t need to get to the bus shelter before you buy your bus fare, you can buy ticket at the supermarket and the difficulty of get the passengers balance would also be addressed.” He said.

He noted that the e-ticketing system will also help to reduce leakages “and once the leakages are reduced it means that we will use that to deal with the issue of maintenance and ensure that we do not increase the bus fare unnecessarily.”

Mobereola, also revealed that the agency had taken possession of 50 new buses which would be used to replace some of the buses that are presently in bad state.

In somne of the reactions by Lagos residents to the planned increment of fare

Mr. Moses Awodele said; “I do not have anything against the increment so long they can keep the service they render to the public intact; there is no problem with the fare increment.”

Also, Ayokunle ogunyinka on his own part said “He will support the increment if there is a reason behind it, they buy diesel to keep the buses on the road and the cost of diesel is too expensive, and for the fact that it is owned by the state government does not mean that they should run the business on debt,”

My ‘love story’ with Basket Mouth —Ify Okeke

Actress Ifeoma Okeke is really, really upset at the moment. Despite the fact that she’s yet to come to terms with the purported romantic affair between her and popular stand-up comedian, Bright Okpocha, a.k.a Basket Mouth, the busty actress has concerned herself with the aftermath of that allegation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The allegation made headlines in a number of soft-sell magazines in the country.
While narrating her woe to HVP last weekend, she said the bad press has caused her not only her dignity as a woman but also, her plans to settle down in the nearest future. Since the publications hit the street, her fiance has suddenly transformed into a monster overnight.

According to her, “when my fiancé read the story, he called me on phone to lambast me thoroughly. He expressed his reservation about my continued sojourn in the industry. The story was only a confirmation to his earlier fear. At the moment, I’m having issues with him because he wouldn’t listen to me anymore.”

The soft-spoken actress expressed disappointment that BasketMouth is yet to react to the story since it broke out. “I was expecting Basket Mouth to refute the allegation but he never did.”

She vowed to stop at nothing to ensure that she gets her own pound of flesh from those rumour mongers who wants to tarnish her image.

She narrates further: “I don’t want to talk about this anymore, because I had expected Basket Mouth to come out openly to discredit the story but he never did. He doesn’t even know me and we don’t have any acquaintance whatsoever. That’s how bad it is.”

“The only contact we ever had was at his child dedication. A friend of the lady that had a child for him was my close friend too. On the day of that dedication, I accompanied my friend to Basket Mouth’s house, because her car was in bad shape. Even at the function, I did not go close to Basket Mouth, or say ‘hello’ to him. That was what got me into this mess. I left the place without any hunch on my back.”

“ To be frank with you, if you go through my phone contacts, you will not come across Basket Mouth’s number in it. I wonder why the false accusation.”

“I have dated one or two persons in the industry, I wouldn’t deny that. I’m neither a saint nor a virgin. But right now, I will stop at nothing to seek redress in court. I have already advised my lawyer to write to the magazine that started the fire. I’m not going to take it lightly with them. I’m a single lady who’s hopeful of getting married tomorrow, why would somebody want to tarnish my image unnecessarily and chase away all the men that would want to ask for my hand in marriage?”

I got $100 on each Nigerian girl trafficked to Egypt – Alfa

Alhaji Abdul Kabir Abdulsalaam comes across as a pious, soft spoken gentleman. His mien is calm and composed. But it is said that not all that glitter is gold, hence he is suspected to have engaged in human trafficking between Nigeria and Egypt. He is under arrest and in the custody the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other Related Offences.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abdulsalaam a 37-year-old father of two had moved to Egypt four years ago to study Islamic Studies, but he ended up reading Psychology for reasons he would not disclose. ‘‘I am a 300 level Psychology student of the Al-azhar University, Cairo,‘‘ he said. Unable to further his interest in Islam academically, Abdulsalaam became an alfa, the Christian equivalent of a pastor. As it is to be expected with such a position, Abdulsalaam enjoyed a lot of favour within the Nigerian Muslim community in Egypt. Gifts and favours flowed to the Islamic cleric freely.

‘‘My position is such that a lot of people trust me. There are so many Nigerians who live in Egypt. They come to me in confidence and ask that I help them to get Nigerian girls into Egypt to serve as house helps,‘‘ said Abdulsalaam as he tried to exonerate himself from his alleged role as the leader of a human trafficking syndicate based in Egypt. ”‘I was only trying to help people. I barely make anything out of it. For bringing these girls over, I am only paid 100 dollars by those who requested for them. If I have to accommodate them while they are in Egypt, which I sometimes do, I am paid 400 dollars. But if I have to call job agencies myself to get jobs for them, the agencies pay me no money.‘‘ Abdulsalaam insisted that the girls so trafficked enjoyed kind treatment and favourable work conditions. ‘‘There are only two types of jobs they can do-babysitting and housecleaning. They don‘t combine both jobs and they work for 26 days with four days off as holidays, which they spend with their Nigerian guardians,‘‘ he said.

Head of NAPTIP, Lagos Zonal Office, Mr. Godwin Morka said victims were exploited and subjected to slavery. ‘‘These girls earned 350 dollars, out of which they had to pay 300 dollars to make up their debts to their Nigerian madams. To make up a debt of 4,800 dollars, one would have to work for nearly 18 months,‘‘ he said. Morka also noted that victims were immediately shipped to the various Egyptian families who needed them once they arrived. ”These girls work round the clock with little or no food. They are also not restricted to any one chore. Most of them combine both babysitting and cleaning. It was this inhuman treatment that forced one of his latest victims to cut short her stay in Egypt to return to Nigeria,‘‘ he added.

But Abdulsalaam denied collecting payments from the girls, saying that the affected girls only made payments to the Nigerian women who requested them. ‘‘If a girl comes from Nigeria unaccompanied, then she would have to pay 4,000 dollars to her madam. That is to offset the cost of bringing her over. If she is accompanied by an agent, she has to pay 4,800 dollars.‘‘

Mr. Godwin Morka said Abdulsalaam worked in tandem with Tajuden Akorede, an agent based in Nigeria, whose job was to arrange the travel arrangements of each girl. ‘‘Tajudeen also has two female accomplices who are presently on bail. Even after being paid by Abdulsalaam to arrange the necessary documents for travelling, Tajudeen would insist that each victim raised her own travelling expenses.‘‘ Morka said.

Akorede, a middle aged father of four, said he had known Abdulsalaam for two years. ‘‘I met him in Egypt in 2008 and since then, we have been working together. Formerly, I worked as a commercial bus driver in Lagos, but I had to stop because I kept having bouts of asthma.‘‘ Although he admitted collecting double payments for victims‘ travel documents, he blamed the practice on his ill health. ‘‘My health is not very good, so I don‘t always go to the embassy myself to sort things out. I have to use other agents there who have to be paid.‘‘

Abdulsalaam was arrested at Oregun, Lagos where Omotola, a girl he had trafficked to Egypt was to meet him with a microwave oven and an additional 250 dollars to claim her seized passport from him. Although resident in Egypt, Abdulsalaam was in Nigeria for business, possibly to recruit more girls for trafficking.

‘‘Omotola was intercepted at MMAII by SSS agents when she flew into the country under a ticket bearing a false identity. The name on her ticket was Hope and the SSS agents had previously arrested one Hope who they suspected was being trafficked to Egypt. ”We had to let her go for want of evidence. So, when another face showed up again bearing Hope, the SSS detained Omotola and contacted us,‘‘ Morka explained.

‘‘Normally, each victim would travel with already purchased return ticket. As it were, Omotola‘s ticket had expired and to save costs, Abdulsalaam declared her passport missing, and an emergency travel certificate was arranged for her to travel out of Egypt.‘‘

Hope, who had formerly been in NAPTIP custody, had only recently travelled back to Egypt. ‘‘If she had used Hope‘s ticket together with her passport, the fraud would have been easily discovered. That was why an Emergency Travel Certificate was quickly arranged for Omotola,‘‘ Morka said.

When your teenage daughter becomes a porn star

It's no longer news that the teenage daughter of actor, Laurence Fishburne, 49, is now a porn star.

Montana Fishburne, 19, just made a porn film in conjunction with Vivid Entertainment. She's hoping a sex tape will propel her onto the A-list.

"I view making this movie as an important first step in my career. I've watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape. I'm hoping the same magic will work for me. I'm impatient about getting well-known and having more opportunities and this seemed like a great way to get started on it.'

The film is due out in August.
***

It's not funny but excuse me while I pause to chuckle at this girl's stupidity. A porn movie will propel your career? Wow!!! Isn't this the saddest thing happening in Hollywood? Where young girls think that the fastest way to get recognition is to release a sex tape? If it worked for Paris, Kim K, Kendra etc, then it can work for them huh? How pathetic!!! She's in for a rude awakening. Once you start doing porn, nobody is going to touch you in Hollywood.

BTW, Kim K might be popular but she's definitely not an A-lister. If you're looking for an A-list celebrity to emulate or look up to, there's Beyonce. Halle Berry. Tyra Banks. And many other strong, successful black women.
This girl needs some talking to...

The villagers had gathered for the big ceremony only to find a stranger in their midst, that challenges not only the tradition of the village law, but the strength of Odeh and Inale's true love.

The sound track of the movie featured original songs performed by Bongos Ikwue, along with special appearances from Ini Edo, Keppy Ekpenyoung, and Dede Mabiaku.
