Are the children justified?

I have a friend who's dad has 6 children from 5 different women. He had two in his 20's, later got married, had two with his wife, while married, had another kid outside his marriage. Wife found out and left him. He had another one in his 50's with a fifth baby mama.

Now he's in his 60's, very sick, needs serious medical attention and only two of his six children give a shit.

His first born child says he's seen his dad only three times in his entire life. He hardly visited while he was growing up...in fact he denied the child as his initially. The second has never seen him 'cos her mum took her abroad when she was a toddler. Th 3rd and 4th are the ones who give a shit...he married their mum and they grew up with him.

The 5th (my friend) is married to a rich dude, but doesn't acknowledge the man as her father. He had her while still married so he kinda never really acknowledged her as his daughter. The last is just a teenager. He too doesn't give a shit. He, like his half brothers and sisters say he never played any role in their lives. They all grew up with different fathers. Now he needs them to take care of his health and put food on his table.

The only two who care don't have that much money so they went to all their half brothers and sisters and every single one of them turned their back on their father...

Are the children justified?

I ask again, are the children justified?

The Future Awards National Tour Hits Benin!

Fresh off a highly successful Town Hall meeting in the city of Abuja, The Future.. Awards continues its much-anticipated national tour of the nation’s six geo-political zones, to take the message of the Awards to youths at the grassroots and to ensure that nominations and participation in the process comes from all over the country. The next stop is the Benin Town Hall Meeting, which holds on Wednesday the 22nd of October at the Sports Complex of the University of Benin. It holds at 6pm.

The innovative idea of a Town Hall meeting is a rare opportunity for youths across the country to interrogate the award process, connect deeper with it, and get information on how to nominate, amongst others. Nominations for the Awards opened on the 1st of October 2008, and are ongoing now until the 31st of October 2008 on the site http://www.thefuturenigeria.com/.

“It is important to note that this is the only national award that has done a thing like this,” says Emilia Asim-Ita, the PR Director, “Nigerians are used to TV shows and concerts doing roadshows across the country but not awards. It is unfortunate that we do not yet have sponsorship for these road shows and the costs are huge, but The Future Awards is more than just another award, this is about the future of our country, and so it is important to display the commitment necessary. And we are proud of the work that we have managed to do with some of our partners around the country. The question is: Is Nigeria ready for what its youth are capable of?” The Benin Town Hall Meeting holds in conjunction with Music Mix TV show, CFI Benin City, and Nigeria International. With this national tour, The Future Awards dispels any remaining doubts about its truly national character and, as usual, sets another high standard for Awards organization and credibility.

It will be recalled that this trend started last year when three of its major winners were young people from Northern Nigeria, who were not based in Lagos. Still ahead for the tour are Calabar, Enugu, Kaduna, and Ibadan. Now in its 4th year, The Future Awards has proven itself as the nation’s most powerful vehicle for youth culture and youth empowerment. It celebrates young Nigerian achievers by the yearly awards, which rewards the brightest and best youths between the ages of 18 and 31.

The 2008 edition had in attendance Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, World Bank Vice President, and a representative of the Nigerian Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Media partners for the event include Africa Magic, Channels TV, Silverbird, Soundcity, Nigezie, TV Continental, The Guardian, Genevieve, The Sun, Rhythm 93.7, and Zuma FM.

Introducing: Dapo Torimiro
Dapo is a super-talented musician who has come a long way with his career in the States. For those very familiar with the Nigerian-based music group KUSH; that group was his debut in the U.S. music market years ago. The group was very well-received both in Nigeria and amongst Nigerians in the States, and they created a lot of buzz with their single and video for their song "Let's Live Together." When the group disbanded, each of the members went their separate ways, and the girls in the group made a name for themselves in Nigeria. A lot of people have been wondering what happened to Dapo--the only guy in the group.
Well, here's his press release.

Nigerian Songwriter/Producer Dapo Torimiro ''Quickly'' Breaks Onto the R&B/Pop Music Scene With Hot New Songs for John Legend, Brandy and David Archuleta LOS ANGELES, CA -- October 22, 2008 -- You probably haven't heard of Nigerian-born songwriter/producer Dapo Torimiro (http://www.dapomiroworks.com/), but that is about to change with the recent placement of high-profile singles on various top R&B/pop artists' albums. The album release dates fall within weeks of each other, but Torimiro's first break is placing the song ''Quickly'' on five-time Grammy winner John Legend's third studio album, EVOLVER, which will hit the streets on October 28. Featuring multi-platinum-selling artist Brandy, ''Quickly'' has received early industry buzz as not only an inspired, sleek duet featuring R&B/pop music's leading artists, but also as one of the album's stand-out gems. Later this Fall 2008, Torimiro will also enjoy credit for other upcoming tracks, including ''Running'' on David Archuleta's self-titled debut album (11/11/08) -- his first since becoming runner-up on American Idol in June 2008 -- and ''Torn Down'' from Brandy's highly-anticipated album, HUMAN (12/9/08), which she describes as her most personal album to date. A Yamaha-endorsed artist, Torimiro has been recognized by many as a talented multi-instrumentalist and musical catalyst, and he was previously sought after by the industry's top-notch artists to exhibit his skills as a touring and studio musician as well as to score various television and film projects. In 2006, Lauryn Hill selected him to tour with her as her keyboardist for several months, and he also had the opportunity to tour with Lalah Hathaway and perform with the legendary Stevie Wonder. Leaving his role as a touring musician behind him, Torimiro enthusiastically embraces the realization of his ultimate goal: songwriting and producing for major artists. "It's a great opportunity and a dream come true to be able to make the transition from being a touring and studio musician to songwriting and producing for artists that I've always been a fan of. It's great to go from being a fan to a collaborator," he expresses. Torimiro's musical and production abilities are so diverse that no two songs sound alike. Whether he's writing and producing a jazz song or a rock song, an R&B song, or a gospel song, one thing remains constant--the end product will be both absolutely unique and yet authentic to its genre. In the midst of being pursued by various respected artists with whom he has cultivated relationships, Torimiro also recognizes the value of collaborating with other talented producers. The gifted musician has recently teamed up with the award-winning production duo Midi Mafia (50 Cent, Fantasia) in Los Angeles to collaborate on various projects. Of the super-producers' recent collaboration with Torimiro, Bruce Waynne of Midi Mafia says, "He brings something different to the table. You have to do something very special and unique for us to decide to work with you." Elaborating further, he explains, "He plays multiple instruments, and he's not just a beat guy. He's someone who can also start from scratch, but he does it his own way, from his own perspective. He brings a lot of musicality and a lot of theory to the mix. You're going to be seeing a lot more of us working with him." Most recently, Torimiro worked with two-time Grammy-winning producer Jeffrey Weber to record a song for the Obama campaign called "Change." For more recent news on Dapo Torimiro, including ''in the studio'' blog posts (recent post: ''Joss Stone in the studio''), or videos of his amazing instrumentation at impromptu mini-performances, visit http://www.dapomiroworks.com/. Joke of the day
Farmer and the Cow
A farmer was in a bar drinking and looking all depressed. His friend asked him why he was looking depressed and he replied, "Some things you just can't explain. This morning I was outside milking. As soon as the bucket was filled, the cow kicked it down with his left foot so I tied his left foot to a pole. I began to fill up the bucket again and he kicked it down with his right foot, so I tied his right foot to a pole too. As soon as I finished milkin'' him again he knocked down the bucket with his tail and I took off my belt and tied up his tail with my belt. As I was tying up his tail, my pants dropped down, then my wife came out and well, trust me, some things you just can't explain!

Lola Omotayo in focus...

I was going to give Naija Entertainment News but I got into an arguement with my sisters this morning about something we read in City People Magazine. Decided to bring it here...to discuss.

It's a very sensitive issue and something a lot of us women can learn from. It's about Lola Omotayo and Peter Okoye of P-SQUARE.

Y'all know they had a baby together recently and there's been a lot of talk on the side and in the media about them having a baby out of wedluck.

In City People this week, Peter granted an interview talking about his joy as a father and his intentions towards lola, his baby mama.
Excerpt...

For those that thought it wasn't right and those that were disappointed, what was your comment?
Peter "I have heard series of things and people didn't want to come out straight to say anything. The good thing is that they were never against me going out with Lola. Most people were thinking the whole thing will disrupt my career and all that. That was what everyone was concerned about.

In your perception, how do you think being a father will affect your career?
Peter
"I was thinking it was going to affect my career, but now, within a short period of time, I don't think it will affect me. I can take care of my child"

At Lola's age, her family would have expected that she gets married before she gives birth
Peter
"Age is just a number. I'm happy her parents are very understanding people and likewise my parents.

Will you two someday get married?
Peter
"No one has talked about that. People actually thought that I am married but I'm not married. Everyone knows I'm single but the fact is that if God permits, fine. I think children are blessings from God."

Now that she has a child for you, do you want to marry this woman?
Peter
"One way or the other everyone is going to get married one day. Even when you meet a girl today as a girlfriend, you can imagining her as a wife, so we all have that in mind. My time would always come"

Here's what Paul had to say...

Are you looking forward to doing something like this?
Paul
"It's a great thing but it has to be done the proper way. The right way. For me, my own plan will have to wait till I get married"

Do you think that Peter having a baby will affect the group in any way?
Paul
"Well, I don't think it would affect the group at all because it's not as if P-SQUARE said if we get married, we wold quit music. Music is just there, it's not like if you have a child, you can't contest or anything. It will not affect except Peter allows it. Like when we have concerts and Peter starts thinking that today is my son's birthday and all that but that can't happen"

Do you think that in the nearest future, Peter would marry Lola?
Paul
"I think when the relationship started but now, I don't think so. That's what I feel"

So here's what I want us to discuss as mature women. If you're 35years old and you've been in a relationship with a man for 4 years... and you start to realise he's not thinking seriously about settling down, what would you do?

Bear in mind that you are:
A. Successful, so you can take care of a child
B. 35 years old
C. Been with this man for 4 years
D. He's not trying to break up with you...just ain't ready to commit
E. Starting all over again isn't easy...especially at that age.

No woman really wants to have a child out of wedluck (I stand to be corrected)...but like they say, shit happens.
So if you find yourself in this situation, would you end the relationship or do what Lola Omotayo did, get pregnant and have a baby?

I'm asking this 'cos I have an aunt who's 37 years old and has been dating same guy for 8 years now...no talk of marriage from him and I'm thinking maybe she should just have a baby and Fuuk marriage?

What do you guys think?

Dilemma

I got an email some days ago that left me numb for a few seconds. Someone I don't know asked for advice that I didn't know how to give. I asked permission to put it on my blog and seek advice from you all and she said it's ok. The email was actually long with her explaining a lot of things that I am going to keep private but here's the long and short of it.

Some weeks ago, she gave birth to a deformed baby who doctors say will need medical attention for the rest of his life. The child is barely alive, breathing through tubes and all. She wants to tell the doctors to take out the tubes and let the child die peacefully because she thinks it's unfair to want a deformed child to live when he will most probably be unhappy through out his life.

She also doesn't want a deformed baby mostly because she can't take care of one permanently. She says she's a single mum.

The thing is, she feels guilty as hell and wants to know if she's making the right decision...so she came to me.

This is beyond me so I'm coming to you guys.

Personally I think that child deserves a chance to live. Whether deformed or not. I saw a man on TV sometime ago with no arms, but he cooks, drives, and does everything with his legs. Imagine if his mum had killed him when he was born.

It's sad this lady would even consider killing her own baby.
But maybe I don't get it...maybe his deformity is so bad that if the baby could talk, he would ask to be killed. I don't know...don't know what else to say.

What do you guys think and what advice can you give her?

Introducing: Matse Uwatse of Wazobia FM

I'd like to introduce you all to my favourite on-air personality at the moment.

See, I'm not particularly a radio person. You know some people go out of their way to tune in to a particular programme or listen to a particular presenter...that's not me...really. The only on-air personality I used to be into was Shola Thompson of Rhythm 93.7 until he left. And since then I've never really bothered with the radio.

But a couple of weeks ago, while riding in a friends car, I listened to a programme presented by a lady on WAZOBIA FM and enjoyed myself thoroughly. And I've been listening to her ever since.

I went out of my way to get to know her and she's one of the most interesting people I've ever met.

I sent someone to interview her a couple of days ago (for the magazine), and here are some of the things she had to say about herself.

Matse in her own words...
"I am the first of many children, in my twenties and an Itsekiri by tribe from Delta state. An introvert with spontaneous bursts of adrenalin. I am a bit weird too (laughs). I enjoy rock and classicals.

I am an ardent listener with a vivid imagination. I grew up painting scenes and images in my head. I am very creative...I can paint, write poems and of course host radio shows. I am the Afternoon show host on 95.1 Wazobia Fm and I am popularly know as "MATSE". I am easy to tell apart from other broadcasters because of my voice and distinct style. I dabble into family affairs and matters of the heart, which I know is the everyday happenings in people's lives. I also host a musical program called Peoples Choice every Thursday. Some have tagged me the radio equivalent of Oprah Winfrey lol.

I am pretty new in the entertainment business. Actually working as a radio presenter came by chance but I am glad I grabbed the opportunity. It totally showcases my talents and abilities. Radio is for people with a lot of spontaneity and that, I have got in abundance.

Six months into the job I got an award from an independent body as "The most captivating presenter of this generation". Lots of letters of commendation from private institutions and government bodies and presently, I am hoping to be among the nominees for on-air personalities in the Future awards.

Naturally I am a go-getter, I don't quit until I get to the end, I love to get results and I love to please my fans."

And above all, she's a sweetheart. If you're in Lagos, tune in to the afternoon drive every day to listen to Matse on 95.1 WAZOBIA FM and if you have the time, please nominate her for FUTURE AWARDS ON-AIR PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR. She deserves it.

Moving on, a few people have been asking for pictures from the official unveiling of the new Virgin Nigeria uniforms. I haven't had time to go bother them there, but because you asked, will get you the pictures as soon as possible. It's still the best choreography job I've done this year. Just two days of rehearsal (with professional models I might add) and a whole lot of money...lol

There was a show I choreographed for a Telecoms company two weeks ago and I wanted to run mad. I usually provide models for shows I choreograph but this people brought in their models...who had no clue. Luckily I work with guys who know how to choreograph so I passed the job onto them.

Oh by the way, I got into a fight today. I usually don't bother with my modeling agency (my sister runs it) but I had to bother this time around. My company provided 36 models for a road show which ended a week ago. They were supposed to be paid a certain amount of money only for them to give me a cheque minus 15grand on each model. Why the reduction I asked? Because the models did this and did that and they were being punished they explained. You want to punish them by reducing their money I asked? Yes they replied.
A BIG LOL.

Thank goodness I've been in the modeling business for ten years, that one is what I call play play. Please people calculate 15grand X 36 people. How much is that? You want to take out a whole N15, 000 from models who worked tirelessly for three weeks, because they refused to do a particular thing you asked them to do? What kind of bladdy excuse is that? Who keeps the money by the way?

It can't happen sha, not while I'm their agent...laiye laiye.
I told my sister to return the cheque and I told them categorically that no Naira will be removed from any models money...not even 1kobo.

It's so sad the way people try to exploit models in this country. I never tolerated it as a model and I will not tolerate it as a model manager.

You know the funniest part? If this models didn't have an agent, this money would have been taken from their salaries despite the fact that they signed a contract even before they left Lagos for the job...and nobody would have done anything about it.

The things I see and hear in this business...
It's called the crazy world of modeling...lol

What do you guys think of this list?

Meanwhile there's something I read in one of our softsell mags today that really saddened me. Nothing pains me more than seeing people making fun or trying to run someone down because they tried something and failed.
Here's what I read...

Urgent memo to singing duo, Peter and Paul.
Ref: Flopped concert
"I am sympathizing with them on their flopped show (yes, flopped is a better word than cancelled) concert which was billed to hold on Tuesday September 30 2008 at Asaba, but developed k-legs due to reasons best known to them. Can I preach to them? In this life, every man must have a focus. The forefathers say that 'If you're a manager, manage well, If you're cook, cook well, if you're a magician, magic well. If you're a singer, face your day job. No one can be a jack of all trades successfully. They should concentrate on their singing career or resign and become show organisers. Please, help me pass on this piece of advise to Peter and Paul...count your tonque with your teeth"

I felt really sad after reading this because I know the kind of damage words like this can do. It's words like this that discourage people from pursuing their dreams and passion. The ridicule from other people when we fail just stop us from trying. When you try something and fail and people tell you to 'count your tongue with your teeth', you're pretty much done for if you don't believe in yourself, your talent and in your ability.
I keep saying people, pls don't let anyone tell you what you can do and can't do. And it's better to try and fail than not try at all because with every time you fail, you learn what not to do and become one step closer to understanding what you need to do to succeed in life.

Peter and Paul...better luck next time.
And there's nothing wrong with being musicians and business men

From that to something really...crazy. Someone filed a court case against God.
Read the ridiculous story here

Nothing to really blog about today, just stopping by to hi to everyone and also tell y'all that our all time favourite Naija blogger, Bella Naija, now has a new website. It's so fine, so international, so informative and on it's way to being Africa's number 1 music, style, movie, tv and beauty website.

I don't know who the girl behind bellanaija is, but I'd sure love to meet her some day. If not for her, there would be no lindaikeji.blogspot.com

To Saint Patrick

INTRODUCTION
Kachifo Limited, publishers of Farafina Books, Farafina Educational and Farafina Magazine, is proud to announce the release of their latest fictional novel: To Saint Patrick. The novel is a gripping and courageous debut from Eghosa Imasuen, one of the next generation of great Nigerian writers.

SYNOPSIS
It's the year 2003 in an 'alternate Nigeria,' a prominent member of the NPN political party, veteran journalist Chief Johnson, has just been murdered. Two small time crooks are found with a bag full of his bloody clothes. They will take the fall to assuage the public, although some evidence suggests they may just be innocent... Is it politics as usual?
To Saint Patrick rewrites Nigerian political history, presenting the reader with a series of 'what ifs': what if Major-General Murtala Mohammed had survived the 1976 attempt on his life, and had run for a 2nd term?; What if Babangida was simply on the sidelines—an honourable gentleman?; What if our democracy was healthy?
A beautifully written tale of adventure, sci-fi, intrigue, and a dash of love, To Saint Patrick is a must read.

REVIEWS
"To Saint Patrick is a novel that – on the strength of the originality of its premise alone, not to mention the beauty of the telling – has created a new class of Nigerian literature to which will belong all books bold enough to attempt to imaginatively stoke the controversial fire that is Nigerian history."
- Tolu Ogunlesi, Author, Listen to the Geckos Singing from a Balcony
To Saint Patrick is available in major bookstores, and from Farafina at 25 Boyle St, Onikan, or http://www.kachifo.com/. Its recommended retail price is N1000

More Future Award News
TFA National Tour Moves to Abuja! The much-talked-about National Tour for The Future Awards 2009 has kicked off! Following the spectacular launch of the Awards at a media and VIP event in Lagos, and the unveil of the “i am the future” campaign, the organizers are going around the country to sensitize youths from every corner and at the grassroots about nation building and the country’s future, as well as making sure that nominations for this year’s edition reflect even more the diversity and positive complexity of the Nigerian nation. It would be recalled that The Future.. Awards broke new grounds last year when three of its major winners out of the 15 overall came from the North, and were young Nigerians not based in Lagos. Those winners were Abdulkareem Baba Aminu (Journalist of the Year), ‘Mak Kusare (Screen Producer of the Year) and Ali Nuhu (Actor of the Year). The national roadshows will begin in Abuja and are billed to spread through Enugu, Ibadan, Lagos, Benin and Jos. The Abuja Roadshow, which is billed as a ‘town hall meeting’ where attendees will be able to ask any and every question about the awards, is billed to hold at Nu Rivaz, Adetokunbo Ademola Way, by Amigos Plaza, Wuse 2 at 5pm. It is being held in conjunction with Chocolate City and Cocktails In & Out. Unlike other pre-events of The Future.. Awards, this event is open to the public, though confirmation must be made to 07028101959. It will be recalled that nominations for The Future Awards 2009 opened at 12 midnight on the 1st of October and have been announced to close on the 31st of October 2008. Africa's Top 10 Sexiest Women

The guys who recently gave us Africa's Top 10 sexiest men have come up with the list of Africa's Top 10 sexiest women.
Quite an interesting list...check it out.

10. Genevieve Nnaji - Nigeria
Genevieve is Nollywood's brightest star. She has appeared in countless movies and is also a singer and spokesmodel. She is the face for Lux soap. She released an album titled No More. Genevieve says music was her first love even before acting but it is definately acting that has made her the star she is today. She has played everything from a love interest to a 'shoot em up' chick. Some call her Sharon Stone. We call her sexy.

9. Alek Wek - Sudan
Her skin has been kissed by the sun. She is known on a first name basis all over the world. She single handedly changed the way beauty is viewed when she stepped on the fashion scene a decade ago. We love her because she could have paid big money to change her looks once she made it big and she didn't. She is proud of looking like a Dinka girl. She is proud to be African and to look African and challenges whoever doesn't accept it to keep it moving. Her confidence makes her one very sexy lady.

8.Thandie Newton - Zimbabwe
Thandie proves herself as a contender for an Oscar in every role she takes. It was hard for people to see someone so beautiful play the role she played in the movie Beloved but she did it. She went toe to toe with Oprah Winfrey and Kimberly Elise and came out unscathed. Tom Cruise and Will Smith are just two of her leading men. She went there in Crash and won awards for it. Is there anything she can't do? She makes raising her two children and looking like that very easy. Thandie is one sexy Mama.

7. Miriam Chemoss - Kenya
She is more than a triple threat. This beautiful African Queen is a singer/dancer, model, and a full time actress. She has appeared on the CBS show District and has set her sights on Hollywood. Miriam developed her performance skills as a member of The Mavalletes Revue. She then joined the legandary Soukous Stars Band and held her own as the sole female in the band. Miriam released a new single Rudi this year.

6. Angel Melaku - Ethiopia
She appeared on the cover of Black Men magazine with the words "Angel the New It Girl for 07". She is the video vixen for 2007. She currently stars with Kanye West and T-Pain in the video for Good Life. She has also appeared in videos for Trey Songz, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes, Young Buck, and Young Jeezy. She has set her sights on Hollywood and vows that she won't rest till she gets there!

5. Honorine Uwera - Rwanda
Her lips alone give Angelina Jolie a run for her money. This Rwandan beauty immigrated to Canada in the late 90's. A modeling scout found her and the rest as they say is history. She has graced the runway for Issey Miyake, Emanuel Ungaro, Baby Phat, Richard Chai, Ruffian, Vivienne Westwood and Antonio Marras. She was featured in the Roca Wear Spring 2005 campaign with Naomi Campbell and Karolina Kurkova.

4. flavania Matata - Tanzania
This beauty queen represented her country Tanzania at this year's Miss Universe and she was a top contender. We loved her sass and the fact that she didn't put a wig of long flowing hair on top of her bald head. She looked beautiful bald and she stood out. When asked what the judges should know about her she replied, "I am an electrical technician by profession as well as a top model in my country. I never let anyone define me neither by hair nor clothing as I believe God made me perfect as a pure, natural African woman." Amen to that!

3. Rhian Benson - Ghana
Rhian released her debut album Gold Coast in 2003 to critical acclaim. She won a MOBO award. Her passion for music is in her blood - her grandfather led an accclaimed big band in the 50's and 60's in Ghana. Rhian wrote her first song at age 9. She has the brains to go with her beauty - she was at Harvard when her mother got seriously ill. She left Harvard to care for her mother. Rhian is gearing up for her sophmore release.

2. Tiguida - Mali
This 21 year old beauty from Mali is a rising Model on the French Fashion scene. She has done several photoshoots for Parisians magazines and numerous fashions parades for well renowned names like Elit, Imane Ayissi and L'Oreal. The limitations on black models in France have made her travel to Africa, Italy, and the U.S.A for work.

1.Iman - Somalia
Iman proves that sexy doesn't have to stop. She looks good next to very young girls. She paved the way for all the African models doing big things right now. Let's never forget that. She's been on the covers of Black Enterprise, Ebony, and Vanity Fair lately. Her cosmetics line has ethnic women all over the world looking good. If only we could all look this sexy in years to come!

I don't know most of these women so I really can't pass a comment on whether they deserve to be on the list or not. They are all gorgeous though and I sure agree that Iman is the sexiest African woman alive. She's still got it, even in after fifties.

One question though; what happened to Nonhle Thema of South Africa, Oluchi Orlandi of Nigeria, Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana (Miss Universe 1999), Agbani Darego of Nigeria, Charlize Theron of South Africa,
And Linda Ikeji of Nigeria?
Just kidding...lol

What do you guys think of this list?
